In this article we are going to know about the Indian Foreign Services examination in detail, here we will know about the exam pattern syllabus and the selection process as well, lets understand this one by one.

The Indian Foreign Services IFS this exam is conducted by the UPSC as a part of the Civil Services Examination for the recruitment of candidates for the diplomatic roles. This process is of three main stages as preliminary examination, the mains examination and the Personality Test Interview. The candidates will undergo through these stages.

The selection process starts with the Preliminary Examination which is like a screening test. In this exam there will be two papers paper 1 is of general studies and the Civil services aptitude test CSAT. 

The general studies paper covers the topics as Indian history, geography, polity, economy and environment and science and the current affairs. And the CSAT paper contains reasoning, comprehension and decision making skills. 

After clearing the prelims candidates can appear for the mains examination, this is the descriptive question paper. It consists of total nine papers which includes two language papers one essay paper four general studies papers and at last two optional papers. In this the language paper includes English and one Indian language which can be choosed by the candidates. The essay paper test the candidates ideas logically. 

The four general studies paper includes governance, international relations, Indian and polity, and economy, science, technology, ethics and decision making.

After clearing the mains exam, the candidates are called for the personality test which is called as the Interview. This interview asks for skills, communication ability and critical thinking of candidates will be tested. The candidates who are qualified are send to the training. 

Syllabus

There will be two papers for the prelims examination Paper 1 of General Studies and the paper 2 of CSAT, for the prelims exam there will be general studies paper1, general studies paper2, paper3 and paper 4, And there will be the optional subject we have to choose one from that.
