SEBI Grade A Syllabus 2025
SEBI Grade A Syllabus has been revised and outlined in a comprehensive official notification for the following categories: General, Legal, Information Technology (IT), Engineering (Electrical), Research and Official Languages. SEBI Grade A Officer Exam consists of three stages which are given below in detail.
- Phase I: On-line screening examination consisting of two papers of 100 marks each
- Phase II: On-line examination consisting of two papers of 100 marks each
- Phase III: Interview
Paper 1 and 2 in the general stream have the same question structure which shares content across all academic streams. The only exception is the language section for multiple choice questions (MCQs) in each stage of the exam. Both the stages of the exam papers will have bilingual settings except for the English test which has Hindi and English versions. SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern 2025
There are two stages of the SEBI Grade A exam, Stage 1 and Stage 2. We have explained the SEBI Grade A exam pattern according to the stage below.
SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern For Phase I
SEBI Grade A Phase 1 Exam will have two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). The examination pattern of Paper 1 follows the same format across all streams but Paper 2 incorporates different content for every subject. The total examination consists of two parts which contain 100 marks each.

SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern For Phase II
Candidates who qualify the cut-off will be eligible to appear for the SEBI Grade A Phase II Exam. SEBI Grade A Phase 2 will consist of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2 of 100 marks each. Paper 1 and General stream will be same for all. Candidates have to score more marks in this phase as it will be considered for final selection.
Candidates who have applied in multiple subjects, Paper II will be conducted in various shifts, the timings of which will be indicated in the hall ticket.

SEBI Grade A Syllabus For Phase II – Paper I
This is common for all the candidates appearing for SEBI Grade A Phase II Exam. It is an English descriptive test to test the drafting skills of the candidates. This test will be of 60 minutes duration for 100 marks.
English Writing Skill Syllabus
The English subject paper should be designed in such a way that it assesses writing skills that include expression and comprehension of the subject, including accurate writing/essay writing/comprehension.
SEBI Grade A Interview
- Candidates who are successful in the first and second phase of SEBI Grade A Officer recruitment will be called for interview. Candidates 3 times the number of vacancies will be selected for the third phase i.e. interview in order of merit.
- Shortlisted candidates can opt for interview in Hindi or English. While the marks obtained in the second phase will carry 85% weightage, the marks obtained in the interview will be given 15% weightage.
- Thus, selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the second phase and interview will be conducted for final selection of candidates as SEBI Grade A Officer.
SEBI Grade A Phase I Marking Scheme
- There will be negative marking of 1/4th of the marks allotted to the question for each wrong answer.
- There will be a minimum of 30% marks for Paper 1 (there will be no departmental cut off)
- A separate cut off in each paper as mentioned above and a 40% mark in the first stage examination will be required for selection of candidates for the second stage.

SEBI Grade A Phase II Marking Scheme
- There will be a negative mark of 1/4th of the marks awarded for Paper 2 in the second stage (except for IT stream, which will be communicated in due course).
- There will be a minimum cut off of 30% for Paper 1 in the second stage and a minimum cut off of 40% for Paper 2 in the second stage.
- To be selected for the third stage, candidates will have to secure separate cut offs in each paper as mentioned above and 40% of the total cut off marks in the second stage examination (1/3 weightage for Paper 1 and 2/3 weightage for Paper 2).
