UPSC EPFO (EO/AO) Exam Pattern & Syllabus

EPFO stands for the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) Enforcement Officer (EO) / Accounts Officer (AO) Exam. This exam is conducted for recruiting the candidates for labor law and managing the accounts section in EPFO. 

This exam consists of two stages

  1. Written Examination
  2. Interview

The written examination is also called as the recruitment Test. The written examination is MCQ based i.e. multiple choice questions but it is a offline exam pen and paper based. This exam is of the total 300 marks and the duration will be 2 hours. Also there will be negative marking of 1/3 rd marks for wrong answers. The candidates who qualify this test are shortlisted for the interview and this interview carrier 100 marks.

Syllabus for UPSC EPFO EO/AO Exam

The syllabus is divided into the multiple sections. Each section covers various topics. Lets see each section one by one.

  1. General English
    In this sections the candidates are evaluated based on the understanding of english language, grammar and may more. This section contains Reading, error spotting, sentence improvements, idioms, phrases, active and passive voices and the direct and indirect speech.
  2. Indian Freedom Struggle
    This section asks for the knowledge of India independence movements and historical events like revolt of 1857.
  3. Current Affairs/ Events/ Issues
    This section check the knowledge of candidates about the national and international current affairs, developmental issues policies, social and economical developments etc.
  4. Indian Polity
    This section includes preamble, fundamental rights, Indian parliament, presidents , prime ministers and councils of India also the election commission important acts etc..
  5. General Accounting
    this section focus on the accounting standards, principles, journal entries, ledger posting, cost accounting and taxation.
  6. Industrial Relations and Labour laws
    this section covers the various acts, laws and many more.
  7. General Science and Computer Applications
    This section covers the basic knowledge of science and computer suchas basic physics, chemistry, biology, computer fundamentals, Internet, artificial intelligence. 
  8. General Mental Ability and aptitude
    This section is for testing the candidates problem solving skills and the quantitative abilities which contains topics as number system, simplification, approximation, profit loss etc.
  9. Indian Economy
    The candidates should be  well known with the economic concepts and policies such as economic planning, banking systems, budgeting, foreign trade etc..
  10. Social Security
    This is the most important section for the candidates where they need to know about the employees provident fund organization structure, public provident fund structure, Atal pension yojana, national pension yojana.
