OPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam Pattern

The pre-exam will consist of two papers of objective (multiple choice) questions and each will carry a maximum of 200 marks. This exam is only meant to serve as a screening test. The marks obtained in the preliminary examination by the candidates declared eligible for admission to the main examination will not be counted towards determining their final rank.

Note: The Commission will prepare a list of candidates eligible for the Civil Services (Main) Examination based on the criteria of minimum 33% qualifying marks in General Studies Paper-II of Civil Services (Primary) Examination and aggregate qualifying marks in General Studies Paper-I of Civil Services (Primary) Examination as decided by the Commission.

Negative Marking

All questions will carry negative marks for wrong answers (as detailed below). Except for some questions, where negative marks will be given to the most correct and incorrect answers, different marks will be given.

(i) There shall be four alternatives for the answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question shall be deducted as a penalty.
(ii) If a candidate gives more than one answer, it shall be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct and there will be the same penalty as above for that question.
(iii) If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there shall be no penalty for that question.

OPSC Civil Services Mains Exam Pattern

The main examination will consist of a written examination and an interview examination. Two of the papers will be in Part I and will be qualifying and the other seven papers will be in Part II to judge the merit of the applicant. Marks obtained in interview for all compulsory papers (Paper-1 to Paper-7 in Part-II) and Personality Test will be counted for ranking. Each paper will be of 3 Hours.

Candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks as determined by the Commission in its discretion in Part II of the written part of the main examination will be called for an interview for the personality test. Interview will carry 250 marks (no minimum qualifying marks).

Note:- It is mandatory for the candidate to appear for both the papers of the pre-examination for evaluation. Therefore, if a candidate does not appear for both the papers of the Prelims, he/she will be disqualified.
